Democrats, be the DMV
I’m a compromise constitutionalist. I believe in bipartisanship. But.
Negotiation requires two sides. We haven’t got that here. Across the table is tom foolery. Their idea is not serious dialogue but jokes and mockery. Dare you. That’s what we’re dealing with.
I appreciate the skills and experience of Congressional leaders like Schumer and Jeffries. I really do. Congress is complex. Legislation is complex. It’s a serious business. But we’ve fallen into this trap already. Trump should never have been allowed to run for office a second time. I’ve been in a slow burn about the way Biden and the Democrats handled this the first time. It’s tricky. I get that. You don’t want to destroy the institution while trying to save it. But.
The first ninety days of the new Congress are everything. Both legislation and oversight need to proceed simultaneously. Only bipartisanship carries this ball across the goal line. Some of the newly elected Democrats need to be responsible to their voters. And those voters are more conservative than the progressive wing of the party. How does this work?
What issues join us at the most fundamental level?
Corruption.
Obstruction.
Inflation.
That’s where we begin.
Americans don’t like the Trump family insider dealing.
Americans are turned off by attacks on the justice system and weaponized warrants.
And prices. It’s simply too expensive to live in America. You can’t eat your 401k. Utility prices are through the roof. Housing is in deep crisis. Fertilizer trades line it’s a precious metal.
All of this is set against a tax system that only serves to create elite wealth and leaves the nation in debt.
A lot of this is going to be boring. I’ve always believed politics should be as exciting as the lunchroom at the DMV. Politics as sexy is dumb. Writing laws is methodical, mechanical, and sound-bite cowboys need not apply.
So as much as we want January 1st to be fireworks and round one of a cage match, what we really need is a flood of paper and a well-organized plan.
No turkey this year. Or Christmas vacay. Get ready. It’s barely six-weeks. If it’s old stodgy Schumer than he’s the man. I really don’t care about it. What I care about are results.
Why do you think Trump elevated Miller? To distract us. To drive us into a frenzy. The bots are swarming social media. It’s on.
Be the DMV. Get the forms filled in and crush them with bureaucracy. Turn them legislative knots. Congress is the key not SCOTUS. Pass laws. I’ll save some leftover turkey for you. Good luck.
